Remember when the new E-Z Pass transponders came out and it was Virginia’s plan to charge everyone with an old transponder 50 cents per month, and a dollar for the new transponder? I do. I was one of the people who spoke out about the fees even though I was grandfathered out of them. I thought the fees could be justified if people didn’t use the transponder, but if you reached a certain level of usage, then the fee was waived.
Well, the commonwealth of Virginia has done us one better. Starting on July 1, 2014, there will no longer be a monthly fee of ANY kind for ANY E-Z Pass transponder. So that means you can upgrade your transponder as soon as July comes around and not incur any monthly fees.
